About Dawson
Dawson College is located in the heart of downtown Montreal in a historic building on 12 acres of green space. The College's student
population numbers approximately 10,000, with day and evening students enrolled in more than 50 fields of study.
A diversity of languages and cultures is represented at Dawson among the students, faculty and staff, reflecting the multiethnic character of Montreal itself. This diversity greatly enriches the lives of all our
students and their college experience.
Dawson College was the first English-language institution in the Quebec network of CEGEPs when it opened its doors to 1,200 students in the fall of 1969.
The College is named for Sir William Dawson, a McGill University principal from 1855 to 1893. His leadership helped McGill to build a solid foundation in academia and in material acquisitions, which has, in turn, established the institution as one of the great seats of learning in North America.
In 1988, Dawson College began to consolidate all its operations under one roof in the former Mother House of the Congrégation de Notre-Dame. Extensive renovations rendered the century-old building into one of the most attractive, modern and well-equipped colleges in the country, occupying an entire city block, between de Maisonneuve Blvd. and Sherbrooke St., and Atwater and Wood Aves. The College is linked underground to the Atwater Métro station.
